Designing for Mountain and Lake Views

By Avery Chen · November 8, 2025 · 7 min read

A view is the prize of an Okanagan build — but framing it well is harder than it looks. Point a wall of glass west and you'll pay for it in cooling all summer.

We design to the path of the sun: deep overhangs that keep high summer sun off the glass while letting low winter light warm the room. We place the primary living spaces where the view is, and tuck service rooms where it isn't.

Operable windows placed for cross-ventilation, thermal-break glazing, and the right rooflines all help a view-rich home stay comfortable year-round without an eye-watering energy bill.
